Our wedding was beautiful, our honeymoon was a dream. But getting back to the real world post the high of wedding bliss was a shock and I quickly began to think about what next.
I admit I’m not someone to sit still, take my time etc. I’m always thinking about the next project, the next opportunity for growth or the next thing I can do to help someone. Post wedding was no exception, in fact the come down from such a high only exacerbated my need for something else.
Whilst I was freaked out by how I felt and also a bit of a moody cow to be around, I knew I had to pay closer attention to how I was feeling and importantly do something about it. I began looking at my life with a new found scrutiny, looking for where fulfilment was missing. After deciding that no, we cannot afford to buy a house (have you seen London house prices) and acknowledging that maybe it’s not the right time to have a baby, I realised I had to look even closer to home.
This was about me. Not what we should do as a couple, but where do I get my fulfilment from. I quickly realised it was from my career but that was no longer working. I was working in an agency that had been full of change and turbulence the past 2.5 years and it wasn’t bringing me peace. Coupled with the fact I was no longer writing or pursuing my passion for fashion, I was feeling empty.
But the wedding, the solid foundation of a marriage and the love and unwavering support from my amazing husband unlocked something in me.
For the first time in my life I felt able to prioritise me fully. I quit my job without having any idea of what next and I began making plans to blog again.
Fast forward to 4 months and I’m about to embark on an adventure with a new agency, working in a new category and with the flexibility to allow me to pursue passions that genuinely make me happy.
Writing makes me happy. Focusing on self care and learning about mental wellbeing makes me fulfilled. That is what is important.
